Red Rings of Death! or is it...?

Hey guys so this is what's up. I have 3 Xbox 360s with all the same problem it seems..1 was mine others where families that don't want any more or whatever. But all 3 Have the Rings of death. First off I opened and cleaned out all of em. Still not working.. Then I bought everything I need to repair. I removed all the x-clam replaced with screws and rubber washers scrapped off gently the old thermal paste applied new and all that. I even switched out the DVD-rom drive and still none of them will play!? Now here is a tricky part... When I turn 1 on it will start up and moments later only 2 red lights will come on. Then shortly after it will turn to just 1 red light??? What dose this mean and dose anyone know a solution? Thanks a lot!

There is a pretty good explanation of what all the red lights mean, as well as links to larger databases of error codes on our Xbox 360 troubleshooting page. There are ways on there to look up your specific error code, then you can go from there.

well the two red lights means its overheating so possibly you didnt get enough thermal paste on the chip or maybe the screws arent tight enough (at the same time you dont want to over tighten the screws either) but definitely listen to the guy above.

Good Luck,

Cody

I think you can only use the DVD drive that came with the xbox unless you flash a new one or something like that.

Found it - "Replacing a defective DVD drive with a replacement DVD drive does not work, since the replacement has a different DVD drive key, which the game console won't accept."

however if you take the circuit board out of the old drive an put it in the new one you are good to go....assuming that the circuit board itself isnt the problem.
