Black screen, no image

Hi guys, so my friend dropped his phone in the water a while back, the phone worked fine after being dried out. This happens months ago, the only damage with the phone was the lock button, and camera. He handed it to me so I could fix the two. I've replaced his lock button, camera, and battery because it had swelled up. However now the screen won't display anything. When I connect the phone to my computer iTunes will recognise it, but the screen remains black. I've tried the whole holding both buttons down thing but it doesn't work. I think it just might be a bad LCD. But I'm afraid that maybe be opening up the phone after has caused the LCD connectors to fails because of prior water damage, is this even possible?

This is most likely a water damage problem and not long-screw. As @benjamen50 says, it always best to unplug the battery when changing screen or generally poking around in the phone. That said, the iPhone is not as sensitive to backlight issues as the iPads. If you have the skills, you could check the backlight filter to be sure.

However, because all of this is happening shortly after a water damage, I suspect the problem is corrosion related. You said you dried out the phone but did you clean it with >90% isopropyl alcohol and a soft brush? Often times, the corrosion is occurring underneath the IC's (which are usually under a shield) so the root problem is harder to troubleshoot.

You should look for a qualified repair shop that does water damage & micro-soldering repairs to troubleshoot this problem.

Try to clean and reset the connections. Inspect them for damage or corrosion.

If that fails, try another screen.

Was battery unplugged when unplugging or connecting screen cables?

Does the phone display an image with no backlight when turning on? You can check this by shining a flashlight on the screen, it's pretty dark so you may have to shine it and/or look at it on an angle.

Also if the non-magnetized screw for the metal plate for the 3 screen connectors went into the other two screw holes instead of the top one or screws over tightened then the phone may have long screw damage which mean damaged traces in the board and is a nightmare to do that board level repair.

the batter was plugged while connecting screen cables.

There's no backlight or any light displayed on the screen.

I fear it might be a long screw damage as the phone turns on and is recognised by iTunes, and since the screws are right next to the screens connectors. I have checked to see if the board is physically damaged over in that side yet
