Base doesn't hold its own weight anymore

As the title says, my iMac's base doesn't hold the weight of the computer anymore. It's currently stuck pointing slightly downward, and I need to prop it up in order for the display to be pointed in the right direction. I've been considering opening it up anyway...is this something I can fix?

Hold that thought!

I would recommend you bring your system into an Apple Store as they had an issue with the spring mounts in the hinge. Hopefully they do it under an extended warranty or if not the bench fee + part will still be the cheapest way to go.

This is a very large job! As you need to take everything out to even get to the hinge plate.

Ahh, interesting! I think I will definitely check in and ask. I usually monitor Apple's recall page for things like this, but maybe they kept it to themselves since it wasn't a hardware issue per se. I'm still considering swapping out the I7-4771 for a I7-4790 at some point, but I doubt Apple would even consider fixing the spring for free if they found out I tried that. Thanks!
