Is this happening everywhere or only in a certain location? The Macbook will go to sleep if the side of the side of the keyboard comes in contact with a magnet (this is how it knows when to sleep when you shut the screen).

Make sure there is nothing on your desk which could trigger this, and try using it elsewhere to see if it still happens.

I've tried it somewhere else, no difference.

That's strange. If it is definitely not caused by a magnet, it could be an issue with the SMC_lid circuit on the logic board, responsible for putting it to sleep? I haven't seen this suddenly activate without cause though. Older models have a sudden motion sensor which can sometimes cause issues, but the newer Macbook Airs do not have this feature.

Backup the data and reinstall a fresh OS, see if it is still having the same issue. Remove the bottom panel and check for liquid damage as well.
