controller won't turn on at all

xbox one controller was working fine one second then it shut off an since will not turn on. replaced batteries and all that happens is the light slightly lights up an doesn't blink as it would be when connecting to the console once i take my finger off the button it goes back dark, i've tried new batteries &' using the charging cable. still doesn't work. any help.?
