Shorted CPU or U2

Hi everyone, I'm looking at a water damaged Iphone 5S and just have a few quick questions. Its completely dead and when connected to a battery everything stays cool. Then if I hold the power button to turn it on the CPU gets red hot but nothing else.

So firstly if the U2 IC is dead or burnt out would it still send power to the CPU?

and secondly if the U2 IC was bad wouldn't that get red hot too?

U2 doesn't do power, it is the lightning data interface.

So in this case the CPU is shorted, it is not related to U2 in any way.
