Screen repair/troubleshooting an iPhone 5S.

Hi guys. I recently got an iPhone 5s which i know 0 history about. The screen and lcd are 100% cracked. The body also has extensive damage to the aluminium. It also does not post/respond to being plugged into itunes.

I was wondering, how would I know what is broken/wrong with it. Is it just the lcd and glass or is it more stuff inside too?

Also, can it ben opened without risking even more damage to the frame?

And, the most important thing is, could I reset the phone (after i presumably fixed it) without knowing the apple id (remember, I know nothing about this phone)?

Basicly, I want to know is this phone worth rescuing without sinking a lot of money as i do not have a replacement screen, pentalobe screwdriver or anything else required.

Edit: I have also noticed that the phone is bent on the volume controlls side (pic below). This phone may be a lost cause....

Are you sure the battery isn't just flat? (assuming the phone was left in a draw, unused for a week)

I'd actually keep it plugged in to a wall charger for 30 minutes then try to plug it into computer and see if the computer responds to it.

I've charged it for about 20mins and still no response on iTunes. Il leave it plugged in for longer and see if that does anything.

Update: Left it to charge for about 40mins, still nothing when I connect it to iTunes

Sorry but you need tools and this is the only way to test, otherwise take it to a repair shop to get them to test it for you.

You can actually take out the screen without doing more damage to the screen frame but it's pretty tricky.

I take the two pentalobe screws out on the bottom then use a razor blade on the bottom then sides to pry the screen up a bit then lift it up once it has popped up enough from left right and bottom side to start lifting it up.

Note that the screen is hooked in like a clip from the top so do not pry the top of the screen.

Now for an issue like this I would start off by testing another battery or trying to see if the computer detects the phone with the screen unplugged and battery plugged in.

Make sure battery is unplugged when unplugging or plugging in any cables to the logic board.

Thanks, I managed to open it up and disconnect the screen. I've tried power cycling the phone and that hasn't helped at all. Looks like the dock connector is shot. I don't have another battery so I might order one, or I might skip that step and just but a new dock connector.

It looks like there is no major damage to anything besides the screen.By the charging port there are 2 screws take those out and you should be able to take of the screen to inspect the rest

Thats not really helping me to be honest. I need someone to explain to me how to diagnose the phone and see what parts need to be reaplaced and what parts are good.
