get your battery charged with a charger. after that battery , at full charge see if it will start. if it does have your alt. checked, it could be bad or just tighten the belt and clean the terminals. try this and I hope this will help.

Thanks for all the suggestions. Yes, it turned out to be the battery. The posts had massive corrosion built up, not something I was aware of. After cleaning and charging, it seems to be running fine. It's just a matter of charging the battery fully, from what I've been told. But once started, it runs like a charm.

Shari, have a good Tech. check for trouble codes, diagnose and estimate repair. Possible timing belt issue depending on which engine.

I hope this helped you out, if so let me know by pressing the helpful button.

sharihinkel could be a bad battery, not properly grouneded engine bolack or a bad starter. As blanemanis suggested, either fully charge your battery, or if it is relatively old, have it checked and replace it as necessarry. Once you have a known good battery, see if the engine then turns over properly. If it still does not, check your starter since it may draw to many amps because of a short or may have mechanical issues with the starter drive.

The problem most likely seems to be the battery, as other contributors have pointed out. The most surefire way to check if it indeed is a battery problem would be to use a multimeter and check the battery's voltage. It should be at around 12.6 V. In this case, simply jump start the car and let the alternator charge the battery up. Once you start it up, turn on the headlights, heating, radio, and anything else that uses battery power. If you get a 'check battery' light or the engine stalls, then you know it's most likely a problem with your alternator.
