Installed iFixit Battery, now indicator stuck at 100% & random reboots

Hi guys,

As the title says, I just received an iFixit iPhone 6 battery to replace the dying one in my iPhone. I've done many replacements on iPhones so this was very straight forward especially with the tools from iFixit. Upon turning the phone on it would do a few random restarts then settle down which I thought was strange. The LCD also showed faded white blocks on the top of the status bar but after searching people said those blocks would disipate and the screen would go back to normal which it did within a couple hours. I took the LCD and battery cables apart, cleaned all contacts with a soft toothbrush and a tiny bit of rubbing alcohol on the brush, checked all contacts for damage, and reseated the connectors making sure full contact with the logic board happened but that didn't seem to help.

After 2 cycles the battery indicator gets stuck at 100% until I fully reboot the phone (not respring) and it resets to the correct indicated battery level. Once I reboot the phone, it'll go into a boot loop for a few minutes and settle down again. Indicated battery behaves correctly until I charge to 100% then it gets stuck again. I'm testing now to see when my phone will turn off. It's been stuck at 100% for about 12 hours now and plugging it in says the battery is fully charged, thus not supplying any charge current. I know if I reboot the phone it'll charge after a few boot loops.

This never happened before, could it be a bad battery or the battery that I had always dreamed of staying at 100% forever? Haha. Everything else works as advertised from Apple.

It was working for a few days after I took it apart and put it back together...now as I go on a trip where I depend on my phone in a 3rd world country, the iFixit battery is not charging and just stuck on a boot loop after the CPU overheats. Looks like I have no support while traveling for a week so I'll be going to paper map, book and pen method!

Thanks guys,

I've contacted iFixit for a replacement ASAP when I get back. I didn't know that if I opened it myself, Apple won't service the phone anymore even if we, the owner of the phone changed the battery with care. I understand they are protecting their service as high quality in case anything was broken previously. But I would gladly pay $100 to change to an OEM battery for a week of communication and video during work in a third world country. I guess I won't be using Google Translate anytime this trip!

Edit: I just performed a restore at the airport lounge since the internet is really fast but even when the phone is wiped and updated firmware is installed, once it loads, it may stay on for about 2 minutes at a time. Once I get to the iCloud restore, it restarts before it can finish...lol

Lots of times after market battery's don't comply with battery percentage indicators. Which really sucks. I would contact ifixit and check with them. Keep us posted.

iFixit replaced the battery and all is well! I have been using the replacement battery for a week now and it's been flawless. Back to new battery life again for my phone!

One thing that also happened when I replaced the battery is I got white blocks on the top of the LCD which scared me into thinking I broke something. I kept undoing the ribbon connectors and reseating them but it didn't change anything. I was told to just wait a few hours and as I used the phone the white blocks slowly faded away back to normal.

It means that the lcd connector was not plugged in properly. Turning the phone off and on multiple times after reseating the lcd ribbon cable gets rid of the white blocks quicker.

I have had the same issue with one of their batteries, it was a defective battery in my case. Try getting another one, with the warranty
