The S View screen feature activates without a cover present

I have replaced both the screen and battery on an A5 but the S View cover screen has triggered after re-assembly. I pulled it apart again and the S View disabled itself. I do not use an S View cover, nor do I plan to. Is there a way to non destructively modify/disable the hardware and/or software responsible for this feature so it does not re-engage after re-assembly?
