Change SSD with another MacBook Pro

Hello,

My current MacBook Pro 15" Retina A1398 750 GB (Late 2013) system crashed 3 days ago. As far as I know the SSD is safe, I want buy a new MacBook Pro or a second hand from 2014-2015.

My question is: Can I swap out the SSD from new laptop with the one that was in my system?

The newer MacBook Pro's use a different type of SSD that what your system had. So no it's not compatible.

Your SSD is a Apple proprietary PCIe 2 lane unit while the newer systems have a proprietary PCIe 4 lane unit.

Your best bet to gain access to the data on the SSD is to buy this unit: OWC Envoy Pro - Portable, Bus-Powered USB 3.0 Enclosure For Apple Flash SSDs (June 2013-Current Mac Models). This unit will allow you to migrate your user accounts, apps & data over to your new system. After which you could wipe it down and then use it as your backup drive.

hello,

it depends on which model of Mac will be your final choice, you can check the disassembly guides and make sure the HDD is the same, but being newer Mac you should keep the hdd Mac again.

I would use the old HDD in an external case
