@sancfk what model is your combo?

door

@sancfk the oven or the microwave? I am a bit confused by that. "door handle lock light" on your microwave or your oven?

door

actually, it is the lock on the oven that is causing the oven to not work. the microwave is fine. there is a light that stays on that says "locked" and only the oven has a door lock.

That model number might help. But try unplugging it overnight to allow it to reset and see if the problem persists.

Sure, we will unplug it tonight. we did try turning it off at breaker for five minutes, but that did not work. maybe over night will. The MODEL # is RM 288PXV. Thanks!

It looks like this model is over twenty years old. Finding the correct part number may be difficult.

Here's a generic Whirlpool repair guide on the switch:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qRlO-kUe...

Door Switch

Most microwaves have three or four door switches. When the microwave door closes, the door switches actuate in sequence to ensure that the door is closed properly. If any of the door switches fails, the microwave will not start or heat. To determine if any of the door switches are defective, use a multimeter to test each of the switches for continuity. If any of the door switches does not have continuity, replace it. (Caution: The microwave oven can store thousands of volts of electricity in its high voltage capacitor, even after the microwave oven has been unplugged. Due to the potential for electric shock, it is extremely dangerous to replace the electronic components in a microwave. Only a licensed technician should replace a door switch.)

@sancfk if you are talking about the lower over instead of the microwave then it is not the door switch in the microwave causing this. @mayer is of course correct if it is the microwave. If it is your oven, then it is possible that this is caused by a faulty door latch motor and switch assembly. All ovens of this model that are self cleaning have a lock that prevents the oven from being opened during the cycle. Sometimes, the door lock and switch assembly can become stuck and cause the oven to not work. The other possibility is a bad oven control board. If that board is broken, it may not send power to the components, which will cause the oven not to heat.

I'd be checking the switches on the latch assembly part number 33 in the diagram. The original Whirlpool part is Door latch Part #: 3171148 and it looks like this
