My unit will falter after running 15 minutes

I have a craftsman yard tractor, model #917.273351 with a briggs & stratton engine, model #31C7070230e1. After running for 15 minutes while mowing, it acts like starving for fuel & attempts to shut down. I will then disengage blades & drop throttle to idle & it will stay running, but throttle up & same thing occurs. I have changed air filters, spark plug & fuel filter. Today I sprayed carburetor cleaner into carburetor to clean, but still same results.

Terry you may want to clean out your gas tank as there may be some dirt blocking the fuel line in the tank . it may also have something lodged in the fuel line so use compressed air to blow backward up the fuel line to the tank. Also some ethanol based fuels can cause a green slim to form in a tank that has sat for a while and this slim can plug fuel lines and filters. The plugged line may be letting some fuel through just not enough. There could also be blockage in the carb itself at the needles to properly clean them you will need to remove them . Carb cleaner wont help there, remember to count the turns from bottom to be able to reinstall them . Hope this helps

@terry52 sounds like the engine gets choked out from either not enough air or to much fuel. It would be interesting to see what your spark plug face looks like. Black and sooty or light brown and dusty? Anyhow I do not think that the carb cleaner will work. To properly clean it you'd have to take it apart. you can get a repair kit for those at places like this. There are two kinds of carbs used so check which one you have. For your engine/carb repair use this manual SingleCylinderOHV.pdf

Terry, try loosening the gas tank cap when symptoms appear. If the vacuum relief hole gets plugged it could produce the symptoms you describe. If loosening the cap restores the rpm, just buy a new cap.
