Unfortunately, you cannot upgrade to anything higher than what you have now. Here's why:

  • The upper case connector is different in the higher speed models, so you would need a new upper case as well
  • The display in the higher speed models is LED, so the display connectors are entirely different.
  • The keyboard is redesigned with no side tabs on the higher speed models, so you would need a new keyboard.
  • The speaker is shaped a bit differently on the higher speed models.
  • The left I/O board has a different connector on the higher speed models, so you would need a new I/O board.
  • The heat sink has different thermal pad locations on the higher speed models.
  • The fans have a different model number on the higher speed models.
  • There are 3 thermal sensors on the higher speed models instead of 2.
  • The hard drive cable is shorter on the newer version.
  • The optical drive bracket is different and fits differently.

After all of this, it is WAY more expensive than a new machine. Your best bet is to check for deals on complete machines with a higher speed processor.
