Connects to router, displays IP but says not connected to Internet?

My Kindle Fire HD has been working for almost 2 years.

Suddenly in the last week I cannot connect to the internet.

The tablet connects to the router and displays and excellent signal and an IP address is visible.

However, when attempting to use Silk Browser or go the Appstore it says. "No internet connection".

Kindle Customer Service was no help. They said, "buy a new one".

Thanks for any response.

Are other devices working on your network?

door

Yes. Other devices are working on the network

The same thing is happening to my kindle. You’re not alone. If you reset you kindle to factory settings, then it should work for a little bit. That’s what I’ve been doing but eventually it goes back to showing I have a WiFi connection but saying I’m not connected.

Yep, me too. P O S !

Mine will connect at work but not home.

Try logging into your router and make sure the fire stick is not blocked. It should say active, inactive or blocked. If blocked select device options and deselect block. Do this after choosing my network. I blocked my by mistake while doing maintenance on my router.

I am far from a computer expect but I bought a brand new Kindle and got exactly this problem. I found out my router was blocking the connection. I specifically use BT and they gave a feature called smart setup. I've turned this feature off by logging into my account and my kindle will now connect. Hope this helps someone.

Hello, great question! This is a situation where certain tests need to occur in order to properly diagnose the issue. As Ben had asked, are other devices having any network issues? If not, lets test to see if your Wireless Router can properly talk to your Kindle.

Now what I'm about to say may vary based on your internet service provider, and the type of router you have. But the general method to test this; is to log into your router web interface from a device that is properly working. Now, to access the router web interface...the router has it's own IP address. Typically you'll see something like 192.168.1.1 or 10.0.0.1. Try some of either of these addresses to see if you get to a login page for your router. You will want to locate the Admin credentials which is normally found with the documentation on the box that came with the router; or the credentials can be found on the router itself. You'll generally see the username be Admin, and some form of a password associated with that admin account.

Now that we've logged into the router web interface, you will want to look for all of the devices that have/and or are connected to that router. You can find your Kindle by finding the name of your Kindle in the list of devices that has been connected to it. You should be able to click on your device, and you should see another button that say's something like ping test, or connectivity test. When you run that test, the router will indicate weather the connectivity test failed or succeeded. Lets get you to this point before we move onto the next step in determining the root cause of your internet connectivity.

If you have any questions, please feel free to add a comment below this post so we can move things forward for you.

Hi. I had the same problem, tried all router debugging for that device and was about to chunk my Fire tablet through the window, then the thought crossed my mind to clear all history other than saved PW, autofill form data, and site settings in the Silk Browser app. Then voila, I hone have internet connection. Wow. I have no idea how that fixed the issue, and sure am glad it did.

I seem to have resolved this issue with my set-up. Fire HD 10 (9th Gen) and my ISP is Virgin Media so I have a Hub 3.0 providing WiFi. This fix may not work with other providers.

Having followed all the checks above, several times, and reset the router a couple of times for good measure I was still left in the same position - tablet connects to WiFi but with message “Connected, no internet” despite other devices connecting without any issues.

A few years ago there were big security issues with a protocol called Universal Plug and Play (UPnP) and recommendations from various internet security sources to turn it off. I was not expecting anything spectacular but as soon as I disabled UPnP on my router my Fire tablet started pinging messages at me regarding updates and messages from Facebook!

I had the same issue today, i fixed it by going to router hub advanced settings, find UPnP and restore it default i enabled it a while ago for a connection problem to a server and caused a blockage to my wireless devices. Hope this helps.

Everything connects to my router but my Fire. I solved this by giving my fire a fixed address on the Kindle rather than NTFS. Settings-WIF-your connection- click on gear to the right on the line of the connection then click on the pencil top right. Advanced options and change from NTFS to static and set an address. It was working before and I may track down
