Fixed Dialling Number, or FDN mode, allows you to set up a list of phone numbers to which calls cannot be made, and the function even allows you to bar certain dialling code prefixes, such as premium rate numbers.

Actually that's incorrect, it's the opposite. The FDN list is a list of numbers that your phone is allowed to dial. If you activate the FDN feature, you will only be able to dial the numbers in the FDN list, and no others. This allows parents to program their kids phones so they can only call family members, or companies can setup employee phones so they can only call work-related contacts, etc.

Well isn't this just the best unknown feature...this is perfect to keep the wife from trying to sneak off a call to her boyfriend or that nagging mother in law.

door

No actually. Both of y'all are wrong…

Hi @ladybugs199690,

Care to elaborate with the "correct" answer?

door

Eric is right. When the FDN function is enable, you can only call the MSISDN in the FDN list. Ebnable or DIsable the FDN requires PIN2

According to the AT&T Tech Support People, FDN on my Samsung S7 phone allows me to create a list of contacts that I want to be able to call. It also means that it will prevent my phone number, NOT JUST MY PHYSICAL PHONE, from being used to call any other phone number that is NOT on my list. Anyone calling me (incoming calls) can do so because the FDN does not interfere with incoming calls. By doing this, you can ‘aggrevate’ the spoofers who ‘grab’ your phone number to make calls to other parties (e.g., telemarketers, etc.). You will know if it is working when third party calls to you saying that “you called them” stop coming in. With some luck, spoofers will move on and drop my phone number to mask their calls.

There is a limit on the number of allowable contacts (phone numbers in the list) with my Samsung G7. So, I purposefully chose only business phone numbers and specific family members who will KNOW my voice and realize the scam of spoofing. Plus, spoofers won’t make much headway calling business corporations for any sales purpose. Last, the spoofing attempts may become more traceable via the software available to big companies like AT&T.

Not sure if this is relevant, but as per another site - "FDN only restricts calls made using the public phone network, and cannot restrict calls made using apps which route calls over data, or VoIP." which it sounds like this would be how spammers would be spoofing your phone number, no?

Fixed Dialing Number (FDN) is a service mode of a GSM phone's Subscriber Identity Module (SIM) card. Numbers are added to the FDN list, and when activated, FDN restricts outgoing calls to only those numbers listed, or to numbers with certain prefixes. A notable exception is that emergency calls to 000, 112, 911, 999 and the like are exempt (and typically require no SIM or even an active service contract). Incoming calls are not affected by FDN mode.

Not all SIM cards have this feature. PIN2 must be entered beforehand or when applying such settings, which is unique to each card and initially provided by the network operator. Doing so prevents unauthorized users disabling the FDN list. This code is separate from the main PIN1 number which can lock and unlock the SIM card for both inbound and outbound calling.

One practical application of FDN is for parents to restrict the phone numbers their children can dial. For example, the list may give the child permission to call only their relatives or friends. Companies also use this to restrict employees from using company phones for personal use.

I was going to enable fdn but pin code has been created and not by me... What to do? Also I have noticed voicemail resetting several times and I went to call forwarding all off then vn appeared. I put number to always forward and said network and sim card error. This phone is new. ?? Help..

Just in case anyone else comes along looking for the answer to this - you'll have to contact your carrier/service provider and get the PIN2 from them, they are the only ones who can provide it to you. Once you have it, you can change it to a custom one of your liking

door

To Candi Leal. I believe you would need to get a new SIM Card. Once a PIN2 has been created and as you said " Not by me" there is no (Reset) of that PIN unless you know the current/ original PIN. And I believe most phones only give you 10 attempts to enter the correct PIN2 code & then it will lock down the phone to the point where you have to get a new SIM AND do a Total Factory Reset or the phone. Which of course will wipe out everything IE: Contacts list. Photos...Everything!

Know this as well...I was just informed by Tmobile that Their Network does NOT SUPPORT this FDN feature even though it's an available feature of almost all current GSM phone's! Other internet information says...

"Almost all MAJOR carriers have this". So in what world is Tmobile not considered a " Major Carrier "

But that's what Tmobile told me, They don't support that feature.

If you have never said a pin 2 code, there's a high probability that you're provider has set it to 1234 or 5678. So before you waste time trying to call T-Mobile or mint or anybody else, just try these.

WOW, After HOURS talking to 6 to 8 supposed Tech Experts at Tmobile AND Samsung about just what a PIN 2 code was or what it might be so I could enter it to access the FDN feature on my Samsung A71 phone, Only to be told after all those people & time that " Tmobile does not support that feature". Now I know THAT IS A LIE!!!! Or just what the " experys" say when they don't know or can't figure it out!!!

With only 4 attempts left to enter the correct code or be LOCKED OUT OF MY PHONE, I tried the advice of Alex Maui (above commenter) of code 5678.

IT WORKED!!!!

Guess T- Mobile Tech. Support Experts are TALKING OUT THEIR @%^$$@$# AGAIN!!!!!!!!!

This is NOT my 1st time being led around this INCOMPETENT 3 RING CIRCUS by these IDIOT, TIME WASTING Tech.Experts!

Thank you Alex for the Simple DEFAULT CODES that the (So called) Experts could not provide.

And a further update to anyone lucky enough to find this thread.

I have SUCCESSFULLY BEEN USING the FDN (Fixed Dialed Numbers) feature on my Samsung A71 phone on the T-mobile network. So it PROVES that Tmobile's network DOES INDEED SUPPORT TAST FEATURE!

Thanks for all the Lies & incompetence tmobile Tech.Support! To be VERY CLEAR...I asked POLITELY & FRIENDLY multiple times....

" I'm not interested in knowing your team of experts THINKS tmobile does not support this. I'm asking you to get a DEFINATIVE ANSWER that it is or is DEFINITELY not supported on your network. No, I don't mind waiting on hold for you to find out. I have been pursuing this for 3 or 4 hours now! I want REAL ANSWERS, NOT someone's thoughts or ideas..."

You all tell me, DO I express myself CLEARLY? Do any of you reading this not understand what I meant by my above quote?

So for Tmobile to give out that B$#S%&T answer that their system does not support FDN with such DEFINATIVE assurance is why I am writing this for you all to read!

For slthe answer to this to have ultimately been SO SIMPLE, Yet NONE of these ( so called) trained tech. Support people have not been able to get to the bottom of it is a

DISGRACE!!!!!!

Congratulations T-Mobile!!!

Way to go!!!!!

Keep up the good work!!!!

Be Proud!!!!!

The FDN functionality does not depends on network but how the SIM card is configured. Even if you know the PIN2 value it does not mean that you can use it. In SIM card there are a couple of file called SST and UST (depending on SIM type) in which you can enable or disable the functionality. So, if your carrier disable this functionality on these two files you can't use FDN even if you have the PIN2.
