Hi,

Check in Device Manager (operate Win key and x key together, box will appear left side of screen, there will be a link to Device Manager) if there is either a red cross or a yellow exclamation mark against the Sound, video and game controllers entry.

If there is a red cross right click on the Audio controller entry and click on enable from the list that appears. See if your Audio now works.

If there is a yellow exclamation mark against the Audio controller, right click on the entry and click on Properties. In the General tab of the window that opens, in the Device status box it should give an indication of the problem with the audio controller.

Toshiba doesn't have any Win10 drivers for the Satellite C650 laptop. The following link to the Driverscape website has got Win10 drivers for it. Be aware that you have to select your exact model variant of the C650 to get the correct drivers for your laptop. Scroll down the page to see the start of the C650 models, you may have to select the next page (85 at the bottom) if your model is not on this page Once you have got to the correct download page, scroll down to find the Audio driver that you need to download and install. Only install the audio driver. If everything else in your laptop is working OK do not be tempted to install more drivers from this website. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

To install the Audio driver, download them to your laptop and remember where they are located.

Go back to Device Manager > Sound, video and game controllers entry > Audio Controller > right click Properties > Driver tab > update driver > Browse my computer for driver software. Scroll to where you stored the downloaded driver file, select it and then follow the prompts.

Hopefully once installed there will be no more crosses or marks against the Audio controller entry and your sound should be working. You may have to restart your laptop for the changes to come into effect but not certain on this as it varies.

The major problem I am encountering is that in the device manager screen, there is absolutely nothing that refers to sound or audio IE ..“Sound, video and game controllers”

you might want to troubleshoot and get the right sound driver available.
