Why doesn't my screen come on when the Mac powers up? The hard drive sounds like it powers on, but the screen is blank. There was no flickering or fading previously, just one day the screen came on and the next day it didn't.

Hook it up to an external monitor to check the video chip. This can also be a failed PRAM battery. You can also start it in Target mode via a firewire cable to another Mac to test it. Here's how: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1661
