Most Frequent Causes for Vacuum cleaner motor not working

Cause 1

On - Off Switch

To determine if the switch is defective, use a multimeter to test it for continuity. If the on-off switch does not have continuity, replace it.

Cause 2

Drive Motor

First, test the power switch for continuity to ensure that the motor is getting power. If the power switch has continuity, ensure that the blower wheel turns freely and is clear of obstructions. If power is getting to the motor, and the motor turns freely, but the motor still won’t run, replace the motor.

Cause 3

Fan Motor

First, test the power switch for continuity to ensure that the motor is getting power. If the power switch has continuity, ensure that the blower wheel turns freely and is clear of obstructions. If power is getting to the motor, and the motor turns freely, but the motor still won’t run, replace the fan motor.

Opened mine up and took filter off. Used air compressor to blow out motor, fan etc from the inside. Started right up after. I suspect some fine dust interferes with a contact. Good as new.

On A recently bought Bauer 3 horsepower purchased from Harbor freight The vacuum started Running rough. I thought the bearings were going out . The next time I Tried to turn it on and would not run

. Unfortunately I did not buy the extended warranty and it was after the Harbor freight 90 day guarantee . The warranty was 25% of the cost of the vacuum. At Harbor freight this is usually a good sign Doctor product is a piece of c***.

Anyways open it up And traced it out it appeared there was An open in the motor. I found a heat shrink wrapped component On the lower end of the positive windings Marked NJAABFOOTF 128C. I got no hits on Google But suspected this was Some type of heat fuse Set to open at a 128゚C In case of the most common Purposely Engineered failure of every Wet vac I have ever Owned. Which is? Say it with me.... Bearing failure.

After shorting out This component connection The motor ran. But The bearings which We're running very rough after approximately 6 months Of light use we're Causing the motor to overheat and make terrible noise.

These cheap motors that every wet vacuum Manufacturer seems to use in there endeavors toward profit engineering Do not have sealed bearings. The motors are not encased But free to collect Dust and bits of grit That combined with the moisture if it's used as a wet Suction device. Suction device. In other words most wet Vacs made after approximately 1992 R Manufactured to fail. I've not seen one including Rigid not have to be replaced After 6 months.
