There are unofficial ports of 5.1.1 based on Cyanogenmod 12.1. The forum link you need provides details. You can also find a post on the XDA Developers forum as well.

If you are new to using a custom ROM, I recommend that you read through the details of the post in each link to understand what you are doing and always recommend doing a backup of the stock ROM that came with the phone in case some features of the custom ROM are not supported.

Installing a custom recovery to back up your stock rom and rooting your device

For your phone you can install Clockwork Mod Recovery by reading How to Flash a Custom Recovery on the Samsung Galaxy Trend Plus (GT-S7580). Once you have this installed, you can do a backup from the recovery of the device in its current state. This is usually referred to as a nandroid backup. Before you flash your device with the recommended custom ROM that I initially recommended, please root your phone by viewing the guide How to Root the Samsung Galaxy Trend Plus (GT-S7580). You can also do a backup after you've rooted as well.

Backing up contacts, apps, phone logs and contacts

These backups are specifically for backup up the stock ROM. Before installing the recovery, rooting your device, if you'll need to backup your contacts, apps, phone logs or other items to use on your custom ROM, then I recommend you read: Backup Apps, Contacts, Logs, Messages and Settings without Rooting Your Android Phone. For images, I usually just copy the DCIM folder from my phone to my computer. Doing a backup of these items allows you to restore them within the custom ROM, so the settings that you may use daily are available.

To recap. Do a backup of the items on your device first, so that you can restore them after you've installed your custom ROM. Then, perform the installation of the custom recovery, root your device and install your custom ROM.

A note about Google Apps

One last thing to note, is that after you install your custom ROM, it will not come with Google Apps installed by default. Once your custom ROM has been flashed, you will need to flash gapps, which are the default apps, which specifically includes the Play Store.

I've updated the original post to include the details of backing up stock, rooting your device, backing up apps, phone logs and contacts to clarify the process necessary to have a successful experience with setting up the custom ROM and if it's not what you want, returning your device back to what you are currently using.
