It's possible you damaged your flex cable, on your home button. Try putting the old lightning dock (charging port) and then see if the Touch ID works, to make sure the new lightning dock (charging port) isn't the problem

The reason i took the old charging port off was because it wasnt charging the phone, the home button still works on the current charging port i have in the phone. i tried cleaning the old charging port out but that didnt work so i replaced it with an old one from an old iphone 5s, since you cant individually replace the charging port i replaced the whole assembly, audio jack, microphone, and everything else associated with the whole assembly. So maybe a brand new charging port assembly?

Ok, I think I know what happened here. It is possible that you need a new charging port. However, what I think happened is that you turned it on and tested the display assembly, and then disconnected the home button cable. Either way. Disconnect the display and home button assemblies. Disconnect the battery, reconnect everything and put it in its place, the whole thing back together. Then turn your phone on and try it

i replaced the battery before anything, turned the phone on with the old charging port in place, the home button was disconnected before i turned the phone on once the phone was turned on i connected the cable and the touch id worked, the only problem was the phone wouldnt charge, therefore i replaced it with the charging port assembly from my old iphone aand then touch id would not work. Still recommend doing what you said in the comment above? thank you

Just do a hard reset (press standby button + home button till the phone restarts), it will start working. That solved the problem for me

For me it was the connection of the new lightning port assembly. Everything worked except the Touch ID. It even charged. I just connected the old one (Connection on the logic board and the Touch ID) and powered the phone on and voila the sensor worked. then I reconnected the new one properly and suddenly the sensor works! so check if the new assembly has a proper connection or reconnect it.
