i went to flordia with my family for 1 week while we were on our fourth day of being there i was on my ipod touch 5 for about 15 minutes or so then it just shut off i thought that was a little weird so i turned it back on i stayed on it for about 5 minutes that time then got off of it about a couple of hours later i wanted to get back on it did it again i just ignored that it was doing that every time i got on it. so when we got home from vaca i put it on the charger and the next morning i turned my ipod on after about 20 minutes it shut down i tried to turn it back on but nothing was working so i was pressing all the buttons then it took me to recovery mode so i try to shut it off and turn it back on but it was still in recovery mode this happend in september 2015 and i have been trying to fix it sence it happend so now i am in january 5 2016 and i some how managed to get it out of recovery mode but every time i turn it on it shows the apple for about 1 to 2 minutes then the apple has like little lines on it then the screen fades away then shuts off and repeats. somebody please help

It sounds like the battery is failing or it could be water damage. If you look in the headphone port there should be a water damage indicator which will be white (if okay) or pink (if water/moisture has been detected). Can you confirm what the status of this indicator is?

where at in the headphone jack?

With the iPod flipped face down it should be on the upper top of the jack, if I remember correctly. It should be identifiable if you are able to shine a small light in there.

i don't think its water damaged do you think it could be a virus? or do you think the moister in the air in florida had somthing to do with the screen?

door

It'd be really abnormal, in my experience, for it to be a virus. If it was moisture it's possible a Water Damage Indicator would have been tripped and we'd see the tell-tale pink mark on the inside of the jack. It could reasonably have infiltrated elsewhere though as these are not water-tight.

The battery would be my next troubleshooting tip and I'd advise repairing it. It is soldered to the board, however, so replacing it will require some soldering skills. This is something a local repair shop can do if you don't feel you are comfortable with this repair.

how much do you think it would cost to take it some where and let them replace the battery?
