Windows 10 does not start

I know my Laptop BIOS works because on switching on I get the "Toshiba Leading Innovatio>>>>" flyer displayed on my laptop screen. I have a separate monitor, as an extended destop, connected, and it should be noted this shows nothing.

Then the screen goes blank and after about two mintutes the flyer pops up again for about 2 secs and the screen blanks again.

There is a backlight (I can increase the screen brightness with Fn F3) but the screen displayes nothing.

The machine will sit there doing nothing.

After abot 5 mins I get a ping sound, like when a USB device has been inserted, even though none has been.

If I insert a USB device I get the ping sound ackowledging that a device has been connected.

I have tried the "holding the off switch for 60 seconds and restart" and the "shift F8 switch off" techniques, but none worked.

I have left it running overnight, and nothing worked.

Can any one offer advice.

It's possible that an update has gone on and stopped Windows from working correctly. The first thing I would try is a system restore to before the updates went on, if any.

One thing I just thought of which should be done before the above because it's the easiest and quickest is a hard restart. Turn the laptop off, remove the battery and hold the power button down to power cycle the laptop. Then put the battery back in, and try turning on again as normal.

I believe there was a windows update just before the failure!

I cannot take out the battery (the model L10W) without dismantling the whole laptop. I believe this model has the battery inside without any access panel!

I cannot do a system restore as I cannot see if it is reading the USB drive, with the restore files, and so cannot follow any process of restore!

Many thanks for trying

I see. I believe there is a button you can press to bring up the Windows recovery options which has the same effect as when you hold a shift and click restart in Windows. I think it varies from laptop to laptop.

Also, I think there may be a button to press for boot options ?

August,

many thanks. I did find the button and have managed to do a full recovery from my USB recovery copy.

Pawlinu, where did you find the button. I'm having the same trouble tonight and can't find any button. I can see the mouse and when you hire and lower the volume or brightness levels you can see the level display.

I tried the Shift+F8 too and also Control+Alt+Delete but nothing. Can't see any buttons so your help would be great thanks. Also I don't have a USB Recovery copy. What will I need to do?
