My Kindle lost visual and charging ability

I have had my kindle for a little over two years now. One day, I put it on the charger and left to run errands. When I came back, I couldn't get the screen to turn on. It then started my alarm, so I know the battery wasn't gone yet. And there was no way for me to shut it off for three days. None of the buttons nor would the screen respond to any form of stimulus. I called Amazon MayDay. They told me to hold the power button down for 30 seconds. That had no effect. I tried charging it overnight. That had no effect. The only thing I was told they could do was replace it. I was willing to do that if I could retrieve all of our important documents first. However, when I connect it to any other electronic, there is no response. I have been told that there is nothing I can do, that no one is willing to even try to recover the information on the motherboard, much less try to repair it. But I can't give up. It was our family computer, videocam, my school computer... EVERYTHING from the last two years of our lives is on it. And I can't bear to lose all of that. Please help.
