How serious is tearing a connector in an iPhone 5s?

I was trying to replace a cracked iPhone 5s screen (as I'd done successfully in the past). When I powered it on after the repair, the display had problems. (See images)

I posted to this forum to ask for troubleshooting suggestions and received great responses from @syncedrepairs and @jimfixer who confirmed my suspicion that I should double check the connections.

Unfortunately, opening the iPhone 5s (with a small suction cup) was challenging. When I finally managed to get it to open. But it opened too suddenly, with little control. The result was that the tiny metal bracket over the home button cable went flying off to who knows where and the home button cable was removed from its socket without control.

After catching my breath, I checked the power button. The iPhone's screen remained black.

I then proceeded to remove the screws on the front panel assembly, removed the front panel assembly cable bracket from the logic board. I then carefully disconnected the camera and sensor cable, LED cable connector and digitizer cable connector.

As I removed the front panel assembly from the rear case, I realised that there was now a cable which was no longer connected to the front panel assembly. The image below shows the inside of the front and rear panels. The detached cable is above these panels.

So, now what? This phone was supposed to be a holiday gift for my 14 y.o. daughter. Can I repair what I did? What parts do I need at this point. If I want to throw in the towel and find a professional repair person, how do I find them? (Honestly, my one prior experience at a so-called "professional" iPhone repair place (located in a storefront in a strip mall) resulted in repair job which was worse than what I could have done myself in terms of cost and quality.)

Thanks in advance for others' guidance!

Gekozen oplossing

ellamama now that you have it apart take a very close look at the connectors find all your parts and do a good cleaning of the connectors, 99% isopropal alcohol works great. On this page you will find several guides to help with the process of tearing it apart and reassembly.

Give it a try on your own , you've got it open which is one of the hardest parts . Be patient and take your time look closely at the connectors (a magnifying glass helps) make sure there.s not bent or broken tabs. Good Luck

My concern is that I've literally torn it apart. If you look at the third image you should see a separate piece which was torn free. Closer inspection of one edge appears that it tore off the back.

can you send a closer pic of the cable on the top sitting by itself with a view of both sides

Well you broke off the lcd connection flex. You will need a new screen assembly.

Update (12/08/2015)

The home button metal clip is not that important you can leave it out.

Nooooooooooo! Meanwhile, what do I do about the metal bracket over the home button cable connection? I've no idea where it ended up. Looking at iFixit's parts store, I don't see it available for purchase.

Thanks, @xterminal XTerminal, for the updated information. As it turned out, I managed to FIND the piece (in the same area I'd previously searched umpteen times).
