Just behind the power, the little rectangular 3X1" metal & black box.
It looks damaged on my iMac, while power supply and logic board look clean (and while no led on the l b, but a bzzz on the logic bord when powered on).

If so, that is your hard drive.
If that is not the item you are talking about, I'd look through the guides for a picture that shows it well, and link to it in your question if the guide doesn't tell you what it is.
