Open iMac display only works when top pulled slightly away from frame.

Disassembled Imac - changed hdd and reinstalled IOS 10.6 - display only works when top is pulled 1/4 to 1/2 inch from frame. Need fix before reassembly

This must be the wrong machine icon. A G5 will not run 10.6, that takes an Intel processor.

Could be a different model. It is the Snow Leopard IOS. Purchase was probably 2007 or so

Check the seating of the ribon cable to the screen, also check (don't remember if it used magnets in the screen assembly) any magnets that might interfere or have been knocked out of place.

Does it turn completely off when the top is placed or does it display artifacts like vertical or horizontal stripes before turning off?

Thanks!! It was the seating of the display connector but, rather than mess with it, I inserted a small foam pad behind it which seems to be good enough.
