Mike, this error code most likely indicates that the CONTROL LOCK has been activated. To deactivate the control lock press and hold the drain and spin button for 5 seconds. Or you can try to reset it by unplugging your machine, and plug it back in after 5-10 min.

For the kenmore elite the Cl error was cleared by the stay fresh button. It also says control lock above it
On some models, the control lock is also the chime button. Press and hold that for 5 seconds, and you're good as new.
On my model, Accela-wash, press and hold the extra rinse button which also has control lock on it
Holding the chime button for 5 seconds worked for me! Thank you! :)

If you look closely under the printed word "Chime" is says in VERY SMALL letters/words "Control Lock" Wheewww - thought I was gonna have to call for expensive service :(
Thanks! Holding the control lock button for 5 seconds helped me! Saved me $80 for a service call!
It worked by holding extra rinse

Y'all another brand of Kenmore it's the Extra Rinse and that is also your Control Lock/ mecv

We have model number 796 and this worked for it. None of the above---unplugging it, holding chime button, etc., worked. Thank you so much!
The same thing for me.. but on my model I pushed the control lock for about 10 seconds and it finally reset.
