Canon Rebel T5 downloading my images in a CR2 File (.CR2) format

How do I get my camera not to download in this format and how do I open them on my computer? Nothing works, Nothing I have can open this file format.

Leslie, a CR2 file is a camera image created by a Canon digital camera. Adobe Photoshop can open them, as will Windows if you download the codec. You will need to look for and download the Canon RAW Codec 1.2. Those files can be converted into JPEG format with some conversion software.

OK, slight glitch. I downloaded the Codoc and it's on my computer but still can't open the files in anything other than the Canon editor. I can't save it in JPEG.

What OS do you have? How did you install the codec?

I have OS 7 and I downloaded it from codecs.com. the download manager did the installing.
