Is it possible to replace just the glass on the S6 Edge?

I cracked my glass within 3 weeks of buying my S6 Edge and I was wondering if there is a way to replace just the glass. Not to brag, but I'm a real techy guy and I've done other screen replacements in the past. I did a glass only repair on the s5, and from the pictures I've seen, the lcd is bendable on the edge. Will this still use LOCA glue and a UV light? I've got the tools, I'd just need to buy the parts. The glass is very cheap but the lcd and glass combo is over $200. Just wanting someone else's input before I go into something that could be way over my head. Thanks in advance! :)

Yes, You can but be very careful not to use too much heat and don't puncture the battery!

I just replaced glass only on my 925t

Difficulty level; high..

door

If doing glass only why would you even be close to the battery!?

door

You can not get the glass off with out taking the battery out. It is a process. Don't we all wish it was that easy though. Just simply take the glass off lol.

door

Battery has to come out because of heating glass. Don't want to expose to too much heat

door

Can i do it in my s6 edge+ ? Where can i buy glass ? Thnx

I have searched high and low and from what I have found, the answer is no. I watch this German guy on YouTube do glass only repairs because I think he is the best, even though I don't understand german. He got the farthest along out of anyone and failed because the glass is too thin and the glue is too strong and something about it being attached to the digitizer differently. I had my step mom (who is german) translate for me.

Also my brother tried and failed with a junked S6 edge (someone broke it that badly already and let us have it).

Not ruling it out, just saying to plan on failing.

Same here man.. I have even clicked on page two on google search results... I'm that desperate haha! What's that guys YouTube name? I'm just getting into doing glass only repairs (done lcd and glass combos my entire life) and I'd love to see what it looks like when he opens it up lol.

TutopolisTV

He does the S6. He is pretty good in his other videos.

Hints on glass only:

Less glue rather than more

Let the glass drop by itself for 0 bubbles

Use a razor blade for S5.

Scratches on the LCD are normally filled in by the glue.

Plastic razorblades rock for scraping excess glue off. Follow up with alcohol wipes.

S5 takes easily twice as long because the glue is retardedly hard to get off.

Patience is key.

Thanks so much man. Helps a lot!

I've seen all the answers, but don't let me clear whether it is possible or not to change only the glass, I have buy the glass but I don't know if is possible to change it.

No. The LCD is really sensitive and thin and the glue that bonds the screen and LCD is really strong. I've replaced a screen assembly for this model and with the damage screen I tried to remove the glass only and failed.

in the video I watched, the guy carefully used a razor blade to remove the small pieces, and in some places he used a wire. He emphasized taking one's time. Once all of the glass was removed he then cleaned off the glue using only alcohol and a plastic razor blade, once again emphasizing the need to take your time. He then glued on the glass with UV glue and a UV light.

I repair lots of displays by replacing glass and tried an S6 edge yesterday.

To be honest I will be Very suprised if it can be done the touch digitizer is glued to the glass using a Very Thin oca Sheet that needs to be warmed up much more than the other models it is also longer than the lcd itself as it goes right over the soft buttons.

Heating the glass up enough to make the glue soft enough to separate it needs around 80degrees

I have found that the digitizer then separates from the lcd completly making the display unusable.

The lcd underneath is quite flexabile also making it even more tricky.

I Hope I am proven wrong but it is completly different to the other more rigid models making them more easier.

Just to ask the question as i have shattered my glass quite bad in fact little pieces of the glass are slowly falling out. Has anyone tried adding LOCA remover to andcracks etc to allow it to seep through the cracks and begin to loosen the glue.

As i cant live without my phone (Business Phone) i am going to be ordering a complete screen assembly before i even attempt this. but would like to know of any other chemicals i can possibly use to loosen the Loca. This will be dripped into the tiny hole in the screen rather than trying to peel from the edges...

It would certainly help but difficult to do depending on the condition of your screen.

I do the same thing with the frame.

door

Uhm phone insurance people it's cheaper then repair!!!! Plus depending on the model of your s6 edge and what company it was originally sold will change the production run it came from and therefore the replacement parts will be very specific for example a boost mobile version of any samsung or other brand phone is from a different production run then the equivalent at&t model and uses different parts (meaning that if your phone is a boost mobile s6 and you accidentally buy the replacement glass for the t mobile or other carriers phone you will be out of luck because they use different ribbon cables) just something to think about

door

You pay per month for the insurance and then have a $149 deductible. Repair might be cheaper.

door

Tried $200 deductible from AT&T. In addition to that ridiculous cost they will only cover one breakage a year and if you have broken as i have twice you are plain out of coverage even though you have been paying monthly for it.

door

Ummm I was given a s6 edge plus because it's so abused and told if u break the back glass phone won't work.... but I called a repair place from the phone.... they said 350 n you have to replace lcd

You guys are trying to hard to make it look new and the point is to replace glass only due to hazard of broken glass. Only way to get it properly done is by freezing with a nitrogen freeze machine. Using primitive tools with this technology is only going to be a bandaid. Period. You need to leave film under glass and clean it well to assure no debris in between glass. The new loca liquid will fill the uneven adhesive

That's the only reliable way to fix S6 and S7 yes.

All the rest is gambling and will often ends up badly.

The problem is that cryogenic separators are still pretty expensive.

In addition, I still didn't get to which extent they allow to easily remove heavily damaged glasses.

On all the videos around they seem to be dismantling glasses in one piece, barely unbroken…

door

i bought the cyogenic machine. According to some china contacts i have results are better (eg. less lcd damage) than with the cutting wire and heat. Manually peeling of the glass is almost impossible. But the machine is expensive indeed. It has not arrived yet so cannot share the results, yet.

I also wonder how it will go with highly broken glasses. However, there is an additional plastic-like layer between the glass and the oca that might keep the glass pieces together.

i tried to remove the glass from the lcd and when i finished i thought i did it success, didnt seem to damage anything. When i test the lcd i saw that the digitizer had a dead spot left to the bottom, exvept of this there was one more spot that touch was working with a delay. Iam wo dissapointed, i was so close to do this hard fix. Can someone tel me what i did wrong and i have this issues? LCD has no issue, works great!

iam talking about samsung galaxy s6 edge, lcd is great after glass replacement, touch screen faild to worko fine

door

Did you pull the local film off. If so that is what did it. Due to design it's be to leave film removing only glass. I use Goo gone and low heat. Works perfect. Using a clean tooth brush I clean the local film and reinstall new glass. I never pull local film off due to ripping digitalizer underneath

door

yes iam talking about samsung galaxy s6 edge too, [image|837731]

i used raizor blade and i cut the film under the OCA by fault, but the cut is not in the spo that digitizer does not work.

It is because you cut into the layer on top of the digitizer. Digitizer is underneath that ammnd kan atill be working fine dispite the small cut. If uou cut deeper you ll get problems. Www.glasenframe.be

Interesting with these freezing machines. It opens the question on whether it would be possible to use freezing spray. Especially on a broken glass where you can take off piece by piece.

However, I would still have thought that the digitizer comes off with the glass. Is this not the case with the freezing technique? The digitizer remains on the LCD and will work with a new glass applied?

I dropped my Xperia Z3 and the glass cracked in a million small pieces and the digitizer stopped working. The display works fine though, so I need to replace both glass and digitizer, but not LCD. So I was considering whether it would work with freezing spray. Worth a try, perhaps, as I have a can of freezing spray.

Hi, incidentally the S6 screen is said to be identical to the Note 4 but it has an extra part on the back namely the S Pen. Maybe all those broken Note 4s with fail eMMC can be recycled?

Bit of gentle hacking may work here, I separated the S Pen flex from mine without too much hassle.

Not sure if anyone else has tried this, the problem is finding a good reliable source of old Note 4 phones.

The bare displays are a pain to separate but if you do a lot of them there are safe methods.
