Why does my Asus Laptop u48e shut off?

The computer keeps shutting down right in the middle of anything that is running. Even when no programs are running. Seems as though a power supply problem, same if on battery, which is new and fully charged, or when connected to the AC power source. Asus says it is hard drive problem, but not 100% sure. Upon re-boot, comes on saying shutdown problem, and asks if safe mode or not? Sometimes runs for 10 minutes, sometimes hours until it shuts off. Tried setting the laptop on a cooling pad, but still shuts off.

I purchased a new fan for the CPU. It has been 2 days since I installed it, and it has not shut down. Working great so must have been the overheating CPU. Many thanks for your help.

hey Robert,

Can you take a look tot the bottom of the laptop. See if the cpu fan is running, if not try to start the laptop, normally it has to run for a few seconds, if not this is the problem.

i had the same thing.. its a build in security so the cpu can't overheat, the laptop will shut down to protect the cpu.

if not,

there's a big change it will be the motherboard..

good luck and let us know..
