I'm afraid not. The Early and Late 2011 13" MBPs can use the same display panel, but the Mid 2012 (and later) 13" use a different panel. The graphics processor on the logic board went from Intel HD Graphics 3000 in 2011 to Intel HD Graphics 4000 in 2012, so my guess is that there was also a change in the display cable, and possibly the logic board connector.

Mid 2012 13" MacBook Pro

That said, it might be worth looking at the display installation guides for each model, to see if the connector falls in the same position on each logic board. iFixit doesn't stock the LVDS cable as a separate item, but Powerbookmedic lists different LVDS cables for the 2011 and 2012 models.

I don't know whether the 2012 display will work with the 2011 logic board, because I've never had the chance to try the combination. The part numbers suggest that they're not the same, but I haven't seen any information on what the difference is between them. They're your computers; if you feel brave enough to risk it, it might work. At any rate, I suspect the worst thing that might happen is that the display won't work - I doubt you'll damage either the display or the laptop by trying it out, since the power draw is likely to be similar for both generations. Whatever you decide to do, please post back here so we have a record of whether or not this display swap works. Frankly, I have an Early 2011 MBP with a nonfunctioning display; if I can use a 2012 display as well as a 2011, that gives me a much wider range of replacement options.

I put a 2011 a1286 logic board in a 2012 a1286, had to slightly bend the female side of connection to accept the display cable. This worked for a few months then the connection shorted and fried. A little research tells me that the swivel clasp that holds the connection can also cause shorts. So I have just done the same switch on a 2011 a1278, putting that board into a 2012 a1278, again slightly bending the clips edges upward on the female side to be able to accept the display cable connector. This time I remove the swivel clip and used tape to hold everything in place. It's a gamble I know, and I certainly am not recommending this fix, but the pins do match up and so far so good.

I connected 2011 display to mid 2012 logicboard. 2011 lcd connector is 0.5mm wider than logicboard female connector. Little bit of effort required to fit the connector in, but it works fine.

I have tried this on the 13" and 15" MacBooks and their connections are not the same at all. They are totally different LVDS connectors on the boards. The 2012 display will fit into older models, but it's not true going the opposite direction. The 2009-2011 all use a similar connection, and the 2012 brings forth a new one. It sucks because they've been compatible up until the 2012. You can even use the HD webcam on a 2010 model since it uses the same connection as the 2012, it's just placed lower.

I am typing this on an early 2011 a1278 with a mid 2012 a1278 display. Connectors seem a bit different, yes but it fits right in. I have been using it like this for the past 3 months without a problem. Never actually thought there may be a problem up until reading the answers here.
