Low Current CPU fault

can I change or upgrade the CPU to solve this?

Update

Following Up, the Apple Hardware Diagnostic appears only available in this machine when starting with "hold D key" while install disk is in the optical drive.

However that process stalls out at 36 minutes 7 seconds. I suspect that 18 Gb of RAM and a Nvidia Quadro 4000 for Mac are really beyond what that Hardware Test issued in 2008 is capable of wading through with out being watched over night.

So no more process towards reporting an error code. . . sorry

Maybe more at another time, computer has not repeated the Restart on its own that prompted the tests with TechToolPro 8 ( imaginary comfort that) thanks

Do you have a UPS? It could also be a power fluctuation in the AC.

Dan, Unlikely low power, major Symphony Hall in major City. The Restart on its own has happened to my substitute while I was on Vacation as well, I've just learned. Never had a power issue on the MacPros here in 20 years. Run UPS on Lighting Control Consoles and they have not yelped during these incidents.

This is a "special build" configuration although stock to Apple as has single Quad Core 2.8MHz CPU. So is the A CPU buss empty? Does TechToolPro8 know if that is the case, and then would that be the low current? But, why the self restarts if it is a diagnostic error?

Appreciate your input,

Jim

This error is either a power supply issue or the CPU carrier is damaged.

Other than getting "Low Current CPU fault" do you get a error code?

The Low Current CPU fault is a generic description of the diagnostic displayed by Tech Tools Pro v8 after running the sensor test. I was prompted to run the diagnostics by the Mac Pro 3.1 early 2008 Quad core 2.88 GHz machine restarting its self a few time at the beginning of my day and having just received Tech Tools 8. I have not run Apple Hardware diagnostic via the paths available with OS 10.9.5. I will try to do that tomorrow.

The commuter seemed to behave well in spite of this newly discovered fault, it is unclear how long this condition existed before the new Tech Tools called it out, but this was the first time I experienced screen lock and restart, and I was piqued it happened twice at dart of day with high ambient temperature in the work space (76° F).

No other problems noted by the Hardware diagnostics in Tech Tools.

thanks
