Puttin' a 15" mbp Keyboard into a 17"one - flex is shorter

Hello, a customer of mine spilled water on her mbp 2,1 (17").

She gave it to me after two weeks (...) and I found a spare working -italian- keyboard from a dead (by logic board) 15" one.

I managed to do all the steps, even for backlighting, but...

The flex cable is shorter, about 1 cm.

Anybody knows about flex extenders or alternatives?

Thank you so much, I couldn't find any 17" italian keyboard on ebay and similar.

Sorry there is no extender.

You'll need to order the correct uppercase (keyboard) assembly.

Buy the right keyboard. Or solder 30 microjumpers, good luck with that one.

Just order her one of these.

It will function and when she wants to sell the laptop she'll be happy her keyboard was protected. Not only that but by having a EU or US keyboard it is easier to sell and they are in abundance and therefore cheap.

@hari - This is not helpful here. The problem is the ribbon cable of the keyboard. He ordered the wrong part so the the ribbon cable is too short. So he is thinking adding an extension cable will allow him to use the wrong part. He is facing a few different issues here the first the cable is short, but the second is the pin assignments of the cable are also likely not the same Apple had two different harnesses so he has a 50/50% of having the correct version. The third the space you have is just not enough room to place any joint or extra length which will likely mess up the systems cooling. I would hate to be the customer getting this back if he was able to jury-rig this up.

As using it to protect the system from spillage in the first place, I would be careful! these overlays can mess up the systems cooling as the air intake on many of the MacBooks is though the gaps in the keyboard.

@Dan I see your point Dan. I was operating under the assumption that Zibibbo was unable to find the proper part and was able to return the incorrect part. If it truly is impossible to get an Italian keyboard and the customer insists on having one i think my suggestion isn't that bad. I did not think about the cooling issue and it is most definitely a important one. So important that i would settle for a EU or US version as the customer.

@hari - Thats OK, you over focused on the Italian aspect of the question. He needs to look a bit deeper they are out there!

@Dan- I did indeed over focus on that aspect. I actually found one on my first search.

Do you think this could do the magic?

BTW, the macbook pro is pre-unibody and has the old-style keyboard.

Sadly no. You need to bite the bullet here and get the correct keyboard.
