Voltage at motherboard battery pads when USB connected but no battery?

I have a 64GB iPod Touch 3rd generation, with the battery removed. (The iPod may have been water-damaged and/or the battery may have been bad.) Before I install a new battery, I'd like to verify that the voltages are correct at the battery pads on the motherboard.

With the iPod connected to a USB port, I measured the following voltages:

  • Left pad relative to center pad = -2.50V
  • Right pad relative to center pad = -1.94V

(This is with the iPod oriented with the external connector pointing towards me and the battery pads facing me.)

Do those voltages sound right?

Thanks for your help.

user2048, that does not sound right. You only have ground, positive and charging control on your pads. You should only got one set of voltage. Measure the left and right pad only

Left pad to right is 300 mV, essentially 0. Doesn't sound good... Glad I found out now rather than after installing a battery.

What would typical good values be for the positive and the charging control, when connected to a USB port?
