Won't power on even after replacing logic board.

This macbook won't turn on. There are no sounds, no lights, anything. It's completely dead. After attempting to reset SMC, PRAM, etc. I went ahead and replaced the logic board. Installation was professionally done, but it still doesn't work. In fact, it's exactly the same as before.

The DC jack does light up (and turn orange if charging, green if battery full). But it also did that before replacing the logic board.

What else could it be? Keyboard/power button?

If it's not the AC adapter, I have a feeling it's the "left IO board", i.e. the daughtercard on the left side which contains the DC-in. This is responsible for all power-related functions, and if two boards and not worked with the same DC-in, I'd say replacing the IO board/DC-in is the next step. Here's the iFixit guide for replacement of that board:

MacBook Pro 15" Core 2 Duo Models A1226 and A1260 Left I/O Board Replacement

Actually, it's inlikely, but now that I think about it, it could also be the topcase and power button as you mention, although the power button rarely goes bad. You said the board was professionally installed...didn't they test it once they did the work on the machine?

I have had the left i/o board and flex cable replaced for my 2015 macbook air after i spilled milk tea on it but after the repair i’m getting a battery not charging error. Why could that be happening?

Thanks for the reply, but these machines don't have a "left IO board" I believe that's only on the macbook pro's. On this unit, it's all built in to the logic board.

rab777hp, when you refer to the power supply, do you mean the AC adapter, because there's no seperate power supply board or anything. If so, the AC adapter is definitely working, and besides, the battery has a charge, so even if it wasn't the laptop should start up on battery.

I'm also wondering if anyone knows if the PRAM battery could cause this situation???

Power supply on a laptop would be the 'dc in' component.

Its possible that it could be a problem with the topcase, you could attempt to power on the computer from the jump switch on the board.. there are 2 solder points that can be bridged with a screwdriver, if the unit powers on, then you know that the power button on the topcase is no good.

I circled in red the logic board power button for this model in the picture, I find a t8 driver does the job very well.

Any idea which solder points?

I updated my answer with a photo of the power button

Thanks. That's exactly the information I was looking for.

Unfortunately, it did not power on. Have you tried this method? Do you know if those jumpers for sure turn on the machine? If so, I guess it only leaves my new logic board as being toast as well, doesn't it?

I have a feeling it's the power supply.

Hi Shaolin,

The PRAM battery should have 3.0 Volts, that means that its correct. (When these kind of batteries are "dead" they start having less than 3.0, like 2.6....).

The bettery is used the "retain" your configuration for (startup sound volume, startup Screen light level, etc...) Without the battery these values would be erased after restarting your MB.

Hope it helps you

Recheck your adapter output voltage using volt-meter and check the spec of adapter on their label. If the output too below (<< 19 volts)dan not enough currents deliver to logic board. Or the adapter cable is half-crack (just small amount of current-Ampere can through via the cable). Try use another adapter. Other reason maybe the CPU fitted not properly, don't tide CPU's skrews hardly.
