Fan failing on new iMac?

Only a day or two after i powered up my new iMac i noticed what sounds like mechanical fan noise ("ticking") coming from the bottom right area (looking at the screen) of the iMac.

Using fan control software i have been able to narrow it down to the SSD fan, since the frequency of the ticking increase and decrease as i throttle the fan up and down.

The noise does not appear when the iMac is sleeping.

So 1) is there actually a fan located near the SSD? and 2) is it failing or is this normal?

Sadly, you'll need to return your system to Apple to be repaired or replaced under warranty.

As to what is making the ticking noise:

This system only has one fan! Apple has managed to lower the heat using newer lower heat creating chips. It might be the fan unit or it could be a bad capacitor which is allowing noise to enter into the audio circuit so you are hearing it though the speakers. In either case it should be fixed by Apple for free.

To get a better idea whats inside heres the IFIXIT teardown: iMac Intel 27" Retina 5K Display Teardown (check out Steps 7 & 8).
