My iPhone 5C works perfectly except the screen is black

Block Image

I took the phone apart to replace the battery. I put everything back on. the digitizer connection looks great. the Phone turns on and comes up on iTunes as a regular phone. But it does not show anything on the screen.

Try disconnecting the battery, pressing on power button for ~15 seconds, reconnecting battery, then the screen, then rebooting (pressing power+home buttons together for ~10 seconds).

If an image still does not appear, your need to try a new known good screen, as there is a great chance you damaged the screen during the first repair attempt. It happened with me once although I am a 100% sure I did everything right! And that was like my 100th screen replacement.

If a new screen does not solve it, only then you need to look more carefully at the board. But from what I can see from those blurry pictures, there is no "apparent" damage. A thorough examination with 10x or more magnification is needed (or much better picture).

Be very careful when handling the new screen. Never pull on it or flip it back beyond a 90 degrees when connected to the board, as this will damage the screen cables. This is what could've happened with you the first time.

Try a new screen it could just be a defective display, Ive seen quite a few defective displays in the repairs I've done, get them from Amazon or iFixit, i have found eBay has a lot of sellers that send defective parts, Ive found the best quality ones you can get are when I have bought them directly from China.

Hope this Helps

Not only digitizer connection, also check the LCD connection. If the LCD connection is all right. Try to power on your iPhone when charging. The problem possibly caused by damaged LCD or logic board short circuit.

it is possible that you've blown a backlight filter--but since they are under the black waterproofing, we won't be able to tell from the picture no matter what.

this is common if your replacement screen has the three solder lines on the backlight flex exposed---instead of covered with tape. the backlight flex exposed can easily short to ground on the frame and blow a backlight filter.

really the best way to tell is to try a new screen--if also no image, then it will be backlight filter---send out for repair.

It seems he replaced the battery, not the screen.

seems so. in which case, this is even more likely a screen problem. But I don't know---What do you think Rany---do you think there's a chance that one of the filters on the bottom row looks a little off--different colors on the solder ends? I'm pretty sure the 5c filters are under the black stuff, but that could be one of them...

I could be wrong, but I think the backlight filters are exposed, between the screw bracket and the "black stuff," next to which something could be disturbed or it's just the blur of the picture.

On the other hand, the image filters are covered under the black stuff @ OT.. right?

@Jessa, today got an iPhone 5 with no backlight. Removed the screen, and found that the tape covering the 3 backlight solder points had fallen off. Tried a new screen and confirmed it was backlight. So I replaced the dead filter, covered the solder points with fresh tape, and added a piece of Kapton tape over the connectors' shield for good measure, in case the tape fell off again.

Thanks a lot because you are the only one who ever mentioned this.. otherwise I'm sure I would have replaced the filter only to see it coming back very soon after, and being without a clue about the real reason why that was happening..

Had one of those today too :)
