iMac 2.66 core i5 HDD replaced, do I need a electronic fan-kit?

I replaced the HDD like shown here ! (WORKED PERFECT!!!! THANKS !!!)

Now I am unsure if I need an extra fan-electronic kit oder another temperture-sensor o.something similar...

i replaced the seagate (1TB) with the 2 TB

seagate ST2000DM001-1ER164 Media

and the plugs all worked fine !

In the internet there are several informations which are saying I need the kit (yes with the late 2009) others like here say NO not needed !

Hmmm, what do you think ?

I suspect you are getting confused by the different generations of the iMac. Over the different generations Apple has affixed a thermal sensor onto the HD case and then moved the sensor internally within the drive. (three different generations).

Your system (if correct here) does not use a HD temp sensor so you don't need to add one or add an additional fan unit.

thanks for your quick answere.

I was asking in the Gravis repair store, they told me that there is a different (apple-owned) Firmware on the HDD than on the usual seagate HDD. I got the HD within the Sensor, so you expect no trouble.

I thought there is an elektronik kit (not just a seperate temperatur-sensor)

Yes & No here, Yes the firmware is slightly different as Apple HD drives are ID'ed as theirs (all) vs the suppliers in the SMART ID string. But as far as I know the firmware of the drives used in this series of system Seagate made for Apple uses the same firmware so in that regard its the same. Now each series of drive will have different firmware and the drive they gave you may have the updated firmware needed to run the internal temp sensor the newer iMac models need. But your iMac series doesn't access it so its of no consequence.
