Small piece fell off the logic board?

Hi I upgraded the battery in my iPhone 4S a few days back and since then I can't get any signal on my phone. Yesterday I took apart the iPhone again and I saw a small square piece that should connect to the logic board.

It laid under the battery. Has this thing something to do with signal strength?

Thanks

Max

How about posting an image of the " square with solder near the antenna cable" so we can see what you see

Max Andreasson, the part that "fell off" is reference designator J4_RF which is a MS-180 RF Connectors / Coaxial Connector manufactured by Hirose Connector. It will need to be reconnect it in order for you . Check the datasheet on here, it will show you how and where the solder points are. Not an easy chore since it will require some very fine soldering, but definitely doable. Scraping anything off will only make things worse since for now your solder pads still look intact. Stop scraping and get it fixed. Hope this helps, good luck.

Okay thank you. I have not touched the phone since yesterday so I will be sending it to repair because I dont wanna screw anything more off the board! :) I will tell you how it went of course.

One more question!

If we say I would scrape the old solder from the logic board would it bring back the signal? Or do I must have that thing on there?

door

No I will not screw with it anymore. I will send it in.

Scraping solder from the board is a good way to scrape the solder pads from the board which will eliminate your ability to restore this phone by replacing missing components.

How did you manage to knock this off

Thank you for the reply. I don't know I were careful I Will take the Phone to a repair shop this week and see if they can fix it.

She will tell you if its repairable and also has a mail in service

While that could be the female antenna socket on the board, it honestly looks like it could be the antenna itself.

Can you find a spot on the board that looks like it is missing the component? Also check for any pry damage along the edge of the board that faces the battery.

From your picture it looks to me that in addition to missing connector J4_RF, it looks like your U21_RF filter is not attached on all four pads as well. Note: Shorting solder pads does not imply removing solder, Tom is suggesting a workaround where you would purposely create a short circuit, i.e. build a new 'shortcut' path for the current to flow through and restore continuity in a line that has been damaged through the loss of a non-essential component. This is a re-engineering of the circuit. Of the four pads, two of them could theoretically be connected to restore the line, but of course if you connected the wrong two, you would be connecting straight to ground which would short out the whole phone so that it would not even boot. It is very easy to render a board permanently unrepairable by manipulating barely visible components without a really clear understanding of the goal.

The best bet always is to return the board to its factory-engineered original condition. For your board this is entirely possible and a fairly reasonable microsoldering job. I would recommend you send it out for repair, and then you'll likely be able to finish up your repair on your own.

This looks like the test connector, just short out the soldering pads on the logic board.

Okey how do i do that then?

door

Do You mean I should remove the solder?

door

Max, I would highly recommend being sure of what your plan is here before shorting pads on the board---it is pretty easy to render a repairable board not repairable. Show us a picture of what you're looking at.

door

I carefully removed little bit of the solder pads and now it says searching instead of no service. I think I will try to remove a little bit more but I can send a photo aswell.

Max Andreasson,I think you'd be better off and wait before you scrape stuff off that you need. Post an image so you can get a bit more guidance.
