After liquid damage cleanin, display broken. Worth buying new display?

sed some damage to this Macbook Pro, and it failed to turn on at all. After taking it apart and some careful inspection, I found corrosion damage but no burn marks. Cleaned the corrosion damage, and now it starts up just fine, plays sound, responds to input, etc. BUT the screen doesn't turn on. I noticed there was some deeply set corrosion on a component at the top of the logic board that wouldn't come off, so now I'm wondering if it's worth trying to get a new display assembly to see if that fixes the issue, or if there is a bad component on the logic board which makes the display not worth fixing.

Secondary question, what is this component and can I fix just that? (pictures of said component attached)

Hi, First try using a external monitor and see if you have video. If you do I believe I would use the external monitor. Unless you can completely clean the logic board I believe it will fail so I would not recommend a new display. However if you can find one on ebay cheaply enough you may want to try it. Your call but I would use the external monitor or part out the computer and find a replacement. Good luck.

Thanks. Went ahead and tested on an external and no signal. So looks like the mobo is done.

alexmouravskiy, I agree with the approach given by rj713. The components are:

Reference Designator C3890 is a 10UF 25V 10% capacitor in a 0805 package

Reference Designator C3891 25V 10% capacitor in a 0805 package

both are part of the boost regulator circuitry. It is possible that they have failed, but not very likely that they would cause that issue. I'd check and if in doubt replace and then re-evaluate.

Thanks! Good to know, although it looks like I'll be needing a new logic board anyway. I've read huge numbers of your answers, and have come to the conclusion that either you're possessed by the ghost of Steve Jobs, or you're a super genius biding your time until you can complete your planet devastator and take over the world.
