Stripes on MacBook screen

Suddenly some horinzontal stripes appeared in the screen of my macbook unibody late 2008. It startes with a little part of the screen but it has been increasing.

Does anybody know what this can be?

Someone said to me that it could be the lvds cable, another can be the screen.

You can see the stripes here

If I connect and external monitor the image is perfect, so I don't think this could be a problem with the graphic card.

That leaves the LVDS cable and connector. Did you open the cover and make a good inspection of the connector in case the cable has become dislodged?

Gekozen oplossing

This a pattern I haven't seen before so I'm not sure if the LVDS cable or if the GPU circuitry on the logic board is having a problem. In any case I don't think you have a screen problem.

Did you get the system wet? I would open the bottom cover and make a good inspection of the GPU chip and the LVDS connector.

Update

OK, I guess that leaves the LVDS cable has gone bad. Here's the IFIXIT guide to work you though the process: MacBook Unibody Model A1278 LVDS Display Cable Replacement.

Take your time with the heat gun and don't run it too hot as you want to soften the glue not melt the plastics.
