Dock melted a spot on cover and smells like burnt. Won't hold charge

I had placed my iPod to charge on a docking station. Noticed battery was dead when looking closely at it it had a spot on the front cover like it got too hot and melted. Took it to apple they said all is fine inside but not to use the same dock again and that the battery just got way to hot when charging. Not holding a charge now and my iPod is all I have with my music, pc crashed don't want to hinder loosing my music. Can anyone help me I'm afraid to ruin it.

I would agree that it was a bad answer problem stands that being I am a lady I just got the brush off when I asked questions about replacing the battery and if it would work after doing so. Guess I wasn't good looking enough.

Bad answer from Apple. Get some good looking young lady to take it to Apple and get them to replace the unit.

Sounds like your dock cooked the battery.

The high thermal energy from the dock most likely heated out the ions in the electrolyte of the battery, no ions, no charge.

Only option is to replace the battery.

since the replaced battery still dies quickly, the logic board - or the dock connector - has one or more parts shorted together/toasted/bbq'ed. finding that part shouldn't be the problem - but replacing it would be pretty hard. you need someone who does component level repair every day - maybe you will find someone in your area (but i don't know if you could find those people in the yellow pages)

good luck
