Two 'broken' iPhones, which way to fix?

Hi. I have two iphone 4. One works 'fine' but the home button does not respond - so we have to use assisstive touch. This iphone is from the day of launch - so has been around for a while! I was recently donated another iphone 4 - much fresher - however - I think this has had water damage (denied by previous owner) - it does turn on - but does not go past the connect to itunes logo even though I have tried DFU mode etc. Google tells me that either the battery has gone or the something power related. So my question is - which way to go! Which iPhone do I use for parts - or which do I fix? Do i take the home button out of one, and merely replace the home button on the older iPhone 4, or what would I take out of the older one to repair the possible water damaged iphone? Any suggestions? Thanks.

Thanks for your reply. Could I ask - what specifically to look to change in the water damaged phone? What components would you attempt to swap or salvage from the older phone to install in the other? I could then look for the specific steps on the ifixit guide and know what tools to purchase. thanks

First thing is to open phone and wash the motherboard with ISO alcohol then leave to dry for 6 hours..

When dry put motherboard in your other iphone 4 because you no all the parts work bar the home button .. And if it turns on then you no motherboard is good before you buy parts that you might not need

Yeah, and also, if you're looking for cheap, free shipping parts for the future problems, that's ebay.com. I've bought plenty of parts for cheap, and I can bravely say I'm satisfied with them. By the way, I have an iphone 4 and the home button is one of the downsides cuz they brake easily. So as Con said just take the home button from the other one and u should be good!
