Hi I was wondering if it would be possible to exchange the display panel of my MacBook Pro to the optional higher resolutions ones in the new MacBook Pros. I have been thinking about it for a while and I cannot find a reason why it wouldn't work. Are the stock 1440 by 900 display panels in the 2009 and 2010 MacBooks the same?

I have ask the same question, and from my research so far. I believe the LCD panel itself is the same size and shape, and connectors are identica. The entire clam shell housing is different between the mid 2009 and the mid 2010 models. They use different ways of connecting the camera and the bluetooth/airport modules. Also i think the hinges are better in the 2010 models.
My idea is to have the mid 2009 display assembly taken apart, and install the HiRes LCD panel used in the mid 2010 MBP. Also since the hinge appears to be better, i would give it a try to try and interchange the hinges as well. Only question remains is that will the mid 2009 MBP aceept and be compatiable with the Higher resolution LCD panel.

i would do something slightly different... why dont you get water damaged mbp, the year you require, and just swap the motherboards? it could come cheaper...

They have different connectors when it comes to connecting bluetooth airport and camera to the logic board so you would need to have a compatible hardware and connectors in the display assembly. Because the mid 2010 airport/ Bluetooth module I believe in located by the optical drive hence it doesn't connect as it wound in the mid 2009 model where it located in the display assembly.
