Volume is not woriking but Ringer Buttons are fine.

Hello. My name is Alyssa and my iPhone 4 has a volume problem. There is nothing wrong with the buttons, but the sound itself. I know that it still works because when I tried to adjust my ringer without the buttons (in Settings), it still made noise, so the speakers aren't broken. The volume however doesn't work. Whenever I try to listen to music or watch a video, no audio is being played.

Update Status: iOS 7.1.2

Thank You in advance for helping me with this problem.

Hello Alyssa,

my name is alyn ,

The proble with your iPhone sounds like the audio ic chip has malfunctioned... this is a known problem with cetain iPhone 4 models and the only way to get this problem sorted out is to have the audio ic reflowed.

you will need to take your phone to a qualified repair shop to have this done.

one question does the sound work through headphones?

if it is not the audio ic then it might be the dock connector as this can also cause the same sort of problem sometimes but my money is with the audio ic being faulty.

hope this helps

I have just recently backed it up and now it works when I have headphones in, but the speakers are still not broken for the ringer works when someone calls me.

To the right of the speaker socket there is a small pinhole which contains a noise cancellation sensor and this is most likely blocked so try blowing into it or using compressed air give it a blast and get the dust out.

There are two speakers one at the top and one at the bottom of the iPhone and the sensor is not detecting that there is incoming sound on the top speaker, in effect it has turned the top speaker off and only unblocking the hole will turn it back on again.
