Why won't the camera shutter release in my Minolta SRT SC-II camera?

The film advance lever seems to have been fully cycled and is at its normal rest position. Pushing shuttter button by hand and by cable does not cause the shutter to activate. There is no film in the camera now. Removed the bottom cover and could not locate any issues, Moved the two visible ratchet hooks clear of the Pawls and tried both advance and shutter with no luck. Expect that the shutter needs to be fired before the film advance lever is free.

Advice on where to look and what to look for? If I need to go super deep into the works I'll probably give up on it.

Thanks

First I must warn you repairing cameras takes a bit of skill, steady hands and good eye sight. You will also need to have a good desk and desk lamp as the parts are tiny and can easily get damaged or lost. If you loose or break a part you may have a hard time replacing it so take you time and don't force things.

OK, so you want to take a crack at it. Here's the Minolta SRT 101 repair manual which is the same basic camera as yours: SRT 101 repair manual.

I just had this problem, and then solved it. I wanted to post here because I haven't seen this solution before. I know this post is old, but if I had found this method described when I googled this problem it would have saved me a lot of time, anxiety, and a half a roll of film.

My SRT SC-II was wound and jammed: the shutter button wouldn't depress. After an hour of fussing with the advance rollers, the mirror, etc, I discovered an elegant solution: I turned it upside down, kept pressure on the shutter button, and tapped the top of the camera (upside down) into the palm of my hand. Clack! It freed up. Since then, I've had an SRT-201 and an SRT-SC-II lock up on multiple occasions like this, and turning it upside down and tapping the top on my wrist *always* freed it up. Of course, there are lots of other causes for lockups that this will not fix, but it's worth a try! You don’t even have to take the film out. You just lose one frame, I guess. I don't know if tapping it upside down physically nudges the actual shutter release mechanism or if it nudges the mirror or what. But, all of my problems with SRT cameras have revealed that the mechanical bits are definitely sensitive to gravity and the orientation with which you’re holding the camera.

Well, I just bought a srT101 at an antique flea market and for $10 this past weekend and when I got it home and loaded film into it, this is exactly the problem my new (old) camera posed. I saw your post requesting a solution and then checked out this short video on youtube. I was skeptical, but went and bought the valve oil and voila! the camera work as new! I hope you try this, as it really doesn't require any skill level (I have zero). Very pleased with myself right now.

Fantastic! I just had to kinda shake and tap my camera so shutter button would work again!

Ridiculous! still think I should try to service it after my film will be over and I will see what kind of photos it is actually taking.
