MacBook Pro 15" Retina Mid 2012 display flicker

I'v got an idea to fix MacBook Pro 15" Retina Mid 2012 display flicker issue. Firstly I'm not sure does it possible to disassemble retina display without damage!?

Idea is to put thin aluminium foil between the wifi antenna cables and the display! This could lower the interference between display and wifi emission.

Does anybody have idea, is it possible to accomplish!?

I have just discovered that the problem is solved instantly by maximizing the brightness of the display. as soon as the brightness is lowered, the problem returns

Why do you think the problem is the WiFi antenna's?

Did you read this: How to Fix Flickering Display on MacBook Pro Retina.

The issue currently is believed to be a shielding issue of the WiFi card its self and it appears to be a harmonic problem so only a given band and SNR level interferes with the GPU.

You should speak with Apple on any extended warranty for the issue (get your case documented).

I read about it a lot, mostly Apple tried to fix the problem with changing logic board or display with minor success. So I'm just guessing that antennas somehow interfere with display.

I live in a house where my own wifi router signal is the only. I tried every channel from 1 - 11 and in some positions in room where the wifi strength is not questionable display starts to flicker. It is really strange.

If it's a wifi card issue, why Apple doesn't just change the cards!?

Thanks for the suggestion I will try to contact Apple. I bought this Mac used so the extended warranty is the only hope.

Best wishes,

Chongi.

I have this problem. It has something to do with the wireless system I have two Mac wireless routers (express in my main office and the other for streaming music in the den) and a wireless-N-Router by Rosewall in the dining room to pick up signal (I have thick plaster walls.) When I unplug the Rosewall or go in the den, the problem goes away. There is some interference issue -- cannot figure it out, but at least it is not a hardware problem (I don't think.)

It is rather annoying, however.

You may want to check the assigned band frequencies. If your Rosewall router is running on the same bands you can get into an issue when your system is trying to stay connected to one of the other AP's (AirPort units). This is were the signal strength is raised in your Mac systems AirPort board which then creates the flicker as the shielding is not able to protect the LCD from the signal noise.

i have a macbook pro retina purchase over a year ago, i have not mishandled in any way, i experienced this flickering problem today, i just can not understand that i purchased this laptop for almost 50k in and it only lasts a year, i have had many iPhones and iPads, i renew every year, this is very disappointing after reading reviews and comments on the flickering sounds like its apples fault with the hardware issue, i hope apple is reading this, i will never buy another apple product, if this was given to me free i would give it back, i have used dell for most of the years and have never had any problems with any of the dell machines, this is my advise for anyone buying a MacBook pro, its like buying a car with three wheels, I'm almost left to believe that apple is competing with china since everything is made there

Did you visit an Apple Store or Apple authorized service center to see what they think? I would start there. Let us know what they told you before they fix it.

Hi. I unticked automatic graphic switching doesn't seem to flicker now. My first mac mid 2014 15 in retina had a different problem the magna adapter or charging port on the laptop overheated. It's been in twice under warranty for the same issue and about three times after the warranty expired, I didn't expect to have problem with the second MacBook I purchased just over a year ago. I am due for an upgrade I won't buy another MacBook they not reliable and repairs can end up costing a small fortune as with the previous Mac that was sold as spare parts

I gave it a go, and I managed to fix my screen flickering. I ended wrapping the entire LCD controller with copper foil tape. If you’re careful and have the right tools, you wont damage a thing.

I documented the process over on the MacRumors Forum:
