After about 2 years of use the phone, **with a good charge**, dies suddenly as if it has run out of charge. Can't reboot without a charger. When initially plugged in the low batter red stripe appears - then after a minuite the initial charge state appears. Have restored the OS and have done a hard reset several times. No joy. Thanks. Thoughts? Aftermarket battery about one year old.

It sounds like you simply need to replace the battery again.
Lithium ions usually last two years however some aftermarker ones just don't last as long.
Try replacing that battery and I bet you will see a 100 percent change!
