SSD possible (?) upgrade on ebay

Unless in the specific section on iFixit, the SSD 13" retina late 2013 is declared not upgradable ..."The proprietary SSD is now in a PCIe format, but still isn't a standard drive. Cross your fingers for future compatible drives; for now, you're stuck with what you've got"...

viceversa in the section of the 15" retina late 2013 there is a SSD replacement compatible with retina 13" late 2013 ( MacBook Pro 13" and 15" Retina (Late 2013) Solid-State Drive).

So there is some contradiction...

And on ebay i found this 1T SSD samsung declared compatible (http://www.ebay.it/itm/321448265559?ssPa...).

Has anyone experienced with it? or with other SSD models?

thanks

Yes it can be confusing ;-) the issue is two fold: 1- the date of the posting might have been before anyone had a solution. 2 - the given model may not have a solution.

The IFIXIT part is a used part from a parts system so it is the real Apple part.

Apple has three different SSD's across the air & MacBook Pro systems which all are the same physical format (M.2). Sadly the I/O is the issue here each SSD is programmed differently.

So depending on the model you may have an option from a third party like Other World Computing. The newest model (late '13) still does not have a solution yet that I know of. I'am sure is coming as we have seen press releases just nothing quite yet.

Hope that helps explain things here

FYI - Unless the eBay supplier has verified his SSD is the correct one I would hold off buying it.

Just to clarify things both of your links point to used parts Vs new 3rd party offerings. So the issue of compatibility is based on what system he pulled the part from.

thanks so much Dan, your answer is fully clarifying!

next days I'll make an other scouting on ebay, where I found other solution and I'll take a decision to buy one of them.

After the test I'll share the solution.

But it takes some times (I'm busy with my job) and I live in Italy...
